March 18, 2025, at the headquarters of Hanoi TV Station, No. 3-5 Huynh Thuc Khang, Hanoi City. Hanoi TV in collaboration with the Vietnam Vovinam Federation officially launched the “Vovinam Dance 2025” competition. The contest is organized with the desire to contribute to spreading the spirit of solidarity, national pride and creating a major cultural and sports event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of national reunification and the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on September 2.

Vovinam martial arts movements combined with music (Vovinam Dance) is an important part of Vovinam – a traditional Vietnamese martial art founded by master Nguyen Loc in 1938. “Martial music” is a set of moves, movements or performances choreographed to a rhythm, with high artistic value, combining martial arts techniques and music (or rhythm) to express the flexibility, strength and spirit of Vovinam.

In Vovinam, the forms (such as Thap The, Song Dau, or empty-handed and weapon forms) are often practiced and performed with rhythmic coordination, possibly accompanied by background music during festivals, events or martial arts performances. These moves are not only for self-defense purposes but also demonstrate the beauty of the harmony between strength and flexibility.

With the desire to create an interesting and creative sports playground for students combining traditional martial arts and modern music, the “Vovinam Dance 2025” Competition will be a playground full of creativity and artistry, combining the quintessence of traditional Vietnamese martial arts with modern music, for primary, secondary and high school students nationwide. In particular, this Contest encourages and welcomes the participation of students and teenagers around the world.

The competition is an opportunity for young people who are martial arts students, dancers and those who are passionate about martial arts and art to try their hand at a new form of performance, with the spirit of martial arts combined with the freedom of art. The “Vovinam Dance 2025” Competition promises to bring a new breeze to sports with explosive performances, demonstrating the strength, will and aspiration of the young generation. And above all, this competition is also a source of pride, honor, … as well as contributing to preserving, maintaining and spreading the quintessence and cultural values of Vovinam – Vietnam’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage to the world.
In addition to promoting the physical education and sports movement, “Vovinam Dance 2025” also contributes to widely promoting the traditional martial art of the nation, bringing Vovinam closer to the young generation at home and abroad.

At the ceremony, Master Tran Van My – Grand Master of Vovinam shared: The “Vovinam Dance 2025” Competition, jointly organized by the Vietnam Vovinam Federation and Hanoi Television, is a meaningful event for young students not only in Vietnam but also around the world. This event not only aims to promote the Vovinam sect but also gives young people the opportunity to train their will and physical strength in a creative and joyful way. The combination of martial arts and music imbued with the heroic spirit of the nation’s martial arts tradition will urge Vietnamese youth to train their body and mind, increasing patriotism and national pride.
The competition will be held in two rounds:
– Qualifying round: Online on the platform http://vovinam.digital from April 1, 2025 to July 31, 2025
– Final round: Live at S5 studio of Hanoi TV from 9:00 a.m. on August 24, 2025 and will start with a Vovinam martial arts and music performance by all Vovinam students and pupils nationwide.

With emotional, engaging and appealing competition content for young people, including mandatory Vovinam martial arts number 1 and an optional creative dance performance, The organizers hope that the competition will become a useful and meaningful annual playground, helping students promote their youth, creativity and passion for martial arts, while raising awareness of the traditional values of Vovinam – a martial art with strong Vietnamese identity.
The total prize value of the competition is up to 550 million VND with monthly collective and individual prizes and the final round.
