PURPOSE AND PRINCIPLE OF THE VOVINAM MARTIAL SECT

 

THREE PURPOSE

The Vovinam-Viet Vo Dao sect operates for three purposes:

Preserving, revitalizing and developing the Vovinam sect created by the late master Nguyen Loc in 1938. Vovinam upholds the indomitable traditional spirit of the Vietnam nation, fully exploits the two parts of human Strength and Softness, and combines all the martial arts quintessence in the world.

Collect, research and create martial arts to improve and build Vovinam martial arts to become richer and more progressive every day.

Training martial arts students in three aspects: Martial Power – Martial Arts – Martial Spirit.

About Martial Power: The sect trains its students to have a strong and stable body; a strong and resilient strength to be able to endure all difficulties and hardships, repel diseases, and keep the body always strong and healthy.

About Martial Arts: The sect will train students in sophisticated techniques to effectively defend themselves and be ready to defend what is right.

About the Martial Spirit: The sect will train its disciples to have a noble soul, an indomitable will, a generous personality, to know how to close themselves in self-discipline, to know how to live in harmony with fellow believers, know how to sacrifice in an altruistic lifestyle and become exemplary citizens, serving themselves, their families, their country, and others.

 

FIVE PRINCIPLES

To accomplish the three purposes mentioned above, the Vovinam-Viet Vo Dao sect operates according to the five principles below:

• All activities of the Vovinam sect are based on a solid foundation: Taking PEOPLE as the ultimate goal, taking MORALITY as the motto, taking TECHNIQUE and STRONG WILL as the means.
• The Vovinam sect is a big family in which disciples love and respect each other. That respect and love will be create into the sect’s discipline, a solid foundation that helps the disciples unite closely to uphold the sect’s honor and serve the nation and humanity.
• Vovinam sect actively contributes to youth education.
• The sect’s activities are not political or religious in nature.
• Vovinam sect always respects other martial sects.

 

TEN THINGS MIND OF VOVINAM MARTIAL STUDENTS

• VOVINAM MARTIAL STUDENTS: Vows to reach the pinnacle of martial arts to serve the nation and humanity.
• VOVINAM MARTIAL STUDENTS: Vows to persevere in developing the sect and building a generation of Vivonam youth.
• VOVINAM MARTIAL STUDENTS: Vows be of the same mind, respect your superiors, and love your fellow believers.
• VOVINAM MARTIAL STUDENTS: Vows absolutely respect discipline and uphold the honor of martial artists.
• VOVINAM MARTIAL STUDENTS: Respect other martial arts sects, only use martial arts to defend yourself and defend what is right.
• VOVINAM MARTIAL STUDENTS: Study diligently, train your mind, and cultivate your morality.
• VOVINAM MARTIAL STUDENTS: Live pure, simple, honest, and noble.
• VOVINAM MARTIAL STUDENTS: Strengthen spirit will to conquer power and violence.
• VOVINAM MARTIAL STUDENTS: Insightful judgment, tenacious struggle, resourceful action.
• VOVINAM MARTIAL STUDENTS: Self-reputation, self-conquering, humble, generous, always reviewing to improve.

 

THE SECT’S REGULATIONS

• Whenever meeting a master or fellow martial artist of a higher level, students must be respectful according to the sect’s formalities.
• Absolutely forbidden to martial arts students from making ridiculous, playfully, or disrespectful gestures while studying and participating in sect activities.
• Absolutely forbidden to martial arts students from using language, gestures, or behavior that reduces the reputation of the Sect and the Nation.
• Absolutely forbidden to martial arts students revealing issues that the sect does not allow to be made public.
• Absolutely forbidden to martial arts students advantage of the name, class or mandate of the sect to plot personal ideas and personal interests.
• Absolutely forbidden to martial arts students arbitrarily using incorrect belt colors, ranks, clothes, badges, and flags in sect activities.
• Absolutely forbidden to martial arts students teaching martial arts indiscriminately without approval from the sect through the right leadership level.
• Absolutely forbidden to martial arts students to use the name of the sect to fighting or provoke aggression against other sects.
• Absolutely forbidden to martial arts students act as a bodyguard for anyone who is not a senior in the sect.
• Absolutely forbidden to martial arts students to act as lackeys for foreigners or evil parties, betraying the interests of the Nation and the sect.

THE SECT’S REGULATIONS reflect the Purpose, Principles, 10 thoughts and Perspectives on the Practice of the Sect, so they implicitly define the absolute DISCIPLINE that each martial arts student must thoroughly understand, memorize and strictly follow. Any violation will be reminded, warned, or demoted before the dan belt is revoked and removed from the sect.
