The 31st National Vovinam Championship 2025 took place from September 10–15 at the Vinh Long Provincial Multi-Purpose Sports Hall, with the participation of nearly 300 athletes from 22 delegations nationwide. Competitors contended for 48 sets of medals, including 22 sets in technical performance (single forms, dual forms, multiple forms, and basic team techniques) and 26 sets in sparring across various weight classes: men’s from 45kg to over 92kg, and women’s from 42kg to over 75kg.

At this year’s tournament, renowned athletes continued to demonstrate their skills and class, maintaining their form with well-deserved gold medals. In addition, many young fighters brought fresh energy to the Vovinam movement, such as Trần Công Anh Đức (Quảng Ngãi), Thị Lài (Đồng Nai), Vũ Thị Nga (Thanh Hóa), Phan Phi Long (Ho Chi Minh City), Nguyễn Thị Hoài Linh (Ho Chi Minh City), and Mai Ngọc Tú Lan (Ho Chi Minh City). These rising athletes represent the future force that localities are preparing for the 2026 National Sports Games in Ho Chi Minh City.

After five days of competition, the Ho Chi Minh City delegation reaffirmed its position as the nation’s strongest Vovinam hub, securing 16 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals to successfully defend its overall championship title for many consecutive years. Their dominance in technical performance was maintained with 11 gold medals, while progress was also seen in sparring events with 6 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals.

Cần Thơ placed second overall with 10 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals—all 10 golds coming from technical performance, highlighting their exceptional strength in this category. Thanh Hóa ranked third with 5 gold, 8 silver, and 5 bronze medals, all of their gold medals achieved in sparring events. This affirms their status as one of Vietnam’s leading localities in Vovinam sparring.

Mr. Ngô Bá Huy – Specialist in charge of Vovinam at the Vietnam Sports Administration – stated: “This year’s championship had high technical quality, as many delegations were strengthened with elite athletes following administrative boundary mergers. The matches were exciting and intense. After the national championship, the Vietnam Sports Administration and the Vietnam Vovinam Federation will select the best team to compete at the 2025 World Vovinam Championship, scheduled for early November in Indonesia.”
